The animations are a tad on the stiff side, but it reminds me of watching the old Godzilla movies when I was a kid. I think that anyone who is familiar with this franchise is going to be able to instantly recognize the monsters.

The visuals on offer in Godzilla: Save the Earth are a bit of a mixed bag. It has a pretty stacked roster of monsters to play as so figuring out which one you like best is great. The game really does shine when you play against a friend. Playing as a monster and destroying a city is fun no matter how old you are. The game also has other “sections” that have you playing as a monster and needing to destroy areas, take down UFOs, or something like that. You have a story mode to play through which will take you around 10 hours or so and if you like Godzilla, you will enjoy this. You are playing as giant monsters after all they are not going to be nimble like Ken and Ryu! Each monster has their own attacks, and you are now much freer to use your energy beam attacks as the meter is not so stingy. This is a bit on the sluggish side, but I actually feel that is intentional. The gameplay of Godzilla: Save the Earth seems to be something that people are really split on. The story is about you trying to fight off these monsters, all the while sending the Vortaak packing back to where they came from. They have brought a whole load of new monsters with them including Space Godzilla. This time, mankind has figured out how to mess around with Godzilla’s DNA and this brings back the villains, The Vortaak from the first game. It is pretty impressive that they tried to keep a coherent story going with this series of fighting games, but Godzilla: Save the Earth does pick up where Destroy All Monsters Mele left off, well 2 years after. As a kid, I would have killed for Godzilla games like these over the garbage that I got for the NES and SNES! This was released on PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox with both versions being pretty much similar, although the Xbox version did offer online play which was cool. Godzilla: Save the Earth is the second of three Godzilla fighting games that were released in the mid-00s.
